The project, stage by stage
A residential landscape lighting installation is five stages, and only one of them involves digging.
- On-site consultation. Complimentary. The designer walks the property, asks how the outdoor spaces get used, and identifies subjects worth lighting. Local familiarity matters here - lot configurations, soil conditions, and the landscape styles common to specific Hanover neighborhoods.
- Lighting plan. Fixture types, mounting positions, aiming angles, and transformer capacity, specified for your review. Nothing gets bought until you approve it.

The six things that move the quote
Written quotes specify fixture count, transformer capacity, wire runs, and labour. Six variables drive those numbers:
- Fixture count - directly, and it is the number most owners focus on first.
- Wire run length. Hanover lots are generous and driveways are long. Distance from the transformer to the furthest fixture affects both cable cost and the trenching labour, which is usually the larger of the two.
- Transformer capacity and count. A large or spread-out property may need more than one, and each needs a suitable power source nearby.

- Will I see a fixture placement plan before you buy anything? If the answer is no, placement is being decided in the yard on the day.
- What housing material, and what LED rating? Brass, copper, or UV-stabilized composite, with assemblies rated in decades rather than seasons.
- How much transformer headroom are you leaving? A transformer at capacity is a system that cannot grow.
- What documentation do I get? Fixture locations, transformer wiring, circuit layout, and programming settings.
- Who services it afterward, and how often? Aiming drifts, plantings grow into beams, and timers need seasonal changes.
