What a reflective heat transfer does

A reflective heat transfer carries retroreflective material in the imprint itself. Under a headlight or torch beam it returns light towards the source, which is what makes a wearer visible at distance in the dark. Applied as a heat transfer rather than sewn-on tape, it can take the shape of your logo instead of a plain stripe.

Two of those numbers deserve emphasis. 380 candela power is the reflectivity figure Insta publishes, and it is the number to quote when a specifier asks. Peel cold is the one that ruins jobs — InstaGlo is not a hot-peel product, and pulling the carrier while the imprint is still warm will lift the reflective layer.

Insta lists the apparel InstaGlo is designed to bond to:

Pressing technique

Pre-heat the material, and use a Teflon or parchment window for the press application if needed. That window is not optional on delicate or heat-sensitive performance fabrics.

Artwork rules

InstaGlo publishes a minimum line weight of 2.5 pt positive and 2.5 pt negative. That is heavier than Insta's standard DTF minimums, and it is the constraint that catches people converting an existing logo to reflective for the first time.

Practically: hairline rules, thin serif strokes and tight knockout detail need thickening before the art goes to production. It is far cheaper to redraw the logo than to press a run that fills in.

Send the logo or decorative graphic in and Insta returns finished transfers ready to apply. Excess transfers can be stored and applied on an as-needed basis, which suits reorder-driven uniform programmes.

What you need to press it

The published window is 290–300 °F at 30–40 lbs for a full 15 seconds. Holding that evenly for 15 seconds across the whole imprint is the job of the machine, not the transfer. A press with cold corners will produce an imprint that reflects unevenly — visible as patchy brightness under a headlight.
